To the editor:
What I love best about Bainbridge is that it is a community, full of diverse people, talents, perspectives and histories.
We have great teachers in our schools and public servants who extend themselves in community life as well as protecting us in emergencies. We have farmers, carpenters, artists and shop owners. We have musicians and writers, performers and poets, entrepreneurs and adventurers. And we have a lot of nonprofits that serve us all.
As a long-time resident, what affordable housing means to me is that our diverse and treasured friends and neighbors who contribute to the quality of life on Bainbridge Island can also afford to live here. It is a key element in being a truly inclusive community.
That’s one reason I’d like to applaud Housing Resources Bainbridge for their Nonprofit and Teacher Rental Assistance Program. “The purpose of the program is to assist those who work in the nonprofit community or as teachers, by helping to make housing affordable to them so that they may focus on their careers helping others,” (from their website www.housingresourcesbi.org).
Thank you HRB for supporting the richness of our community!
