New show at Roby King Galleries features Thomas Schworer

Roby King Galleries will present a solo exhibition by Thomas Schworer, “Navigating by Natural Phenomena,” in June.

An opening reception is on First Friday, from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 5.

Schworer’s artwork of the last two decades has largely been a beautiful exploration of this question.

“Navigating by Natural Phenomena” is an ongoing series of photographs and assemblages. All imagery is shot in camera at each specific site.

For the past year, Thomas has been exploring the visual impact of de-constructing his images and breaking out of the traditional boundaries of the photographic print. He separates each image into five to a dozen overlapping photographs that are then printed, sewn together and mounted. Often, a running text is ghosted into the background in graphite or ink.
