Bainbridge Island youth have some of Washington state’s highest academic achievement scores. However, according to recent survey data designed to assess current student behavioral patterns and social attitudes, closer attention needs to be paid to the well-being of island teens and tweens.
The fourth Community Summit for Healthy Youth will be 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, April 25 for a conversation about how to shift the expectations we place on our young people and how to work as a community to support thriving youth. The summit will be held in the Bainbridge High School Commons.
A complimentary breakfast will be served between 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
The event, which is open to adults and teens, will explore the standards of success Bainbridge Island youth feel they are being asked to live up to, and use the power of story to encourage dialogue about personally meaningful success.
In addition, the summit will echo the messages offered by the new Alliance public awareness campaign, “Youth Matters: A Bainbridge Listening Project.”
The summit will be led by professional facilitator and “story wrangler” Doug Nathan, who will share the stage with his daughter, Maya, a Bainbridge High School sophomore.
According to Cezanne Allen, director of community and youth engagement for the Alliance, the event will be the culmination of all the valuable insights gained from previous summits.
The Alliance emerged out of the first three Healthy Youth Summits as a leadership body to promote healthy, thriving Bainbridge youth on an ongoing basis.
