Who ordered a double tall tax burden? LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Suzuki property needs protection | LETTER TO THE EDITOR

To the editor:

Michael Libes in his letter of March 13 about “too many cooks” makes a good point. Bainbridge Island is the city of 1,000 committees served by transplants from elsewhere.

They fall into two categories: “Empire Builders” or “Obituary Builders.” I will pay $15,000 in property taxes to the state, Kitsap County, regional library, island schools, the city, the fire department, park and recreation and PUD. Additional funds go to water runoff and noxious weed control. None of this is money — it’s just giving up “a few lattes a day, week or year.”

When I moved here, Olympic College put out a brochure listing the hundreds of classes they offered to Bainbridge. Now, our park district also does this. They recently purchased a building for $400,000 without any funds to pay for it. Soon we will find out how many millions they want to build a community center where they can hold classes.

Do you suppose they will cost all of this out in lattes to soften our burden?
