Park purchase is a win now, and a win later | LETTER TO THE EDITOR

To the editor:

I am writing to urge all voters to check YES on Bond Measure 1, allowing the parks department to acquire the Sakai property. This is a win for now and an even bigger win for the future.

In the short run, we have open space where we have had it all these years. We get a park that is walking distance to schools, after-school programs and residential housing.

In the future, as the core of Winslow continues to develop, this park will take on greater importance. Because no matter how we vote next week, Bainbridge Island will continue to grow and it will lose much of the trees and green space that we take for granted today. And years from now, those that follow in our footsteps will be grateful to us for making a wise decision, with a vision for a future that considers people beyond ourselves.
