Last February, I lost my Blackberry smartphone during the Chilly Hilly. It was devastating, as I rely on it for work, and it also had personal information on it.

My husband and I retraced the route, but we couldn’t find it. After a week or two, I gave it up as lost for good. I always wondered whether it was dead in a ditch somewhere or in the hands of some hacker who was trying to break my passwords.

Then last Saturday, I received a phone call from Councilwoman Hilary Franz, who said, “I have your Blackberry.” I couldn’t believe it, especially after it had been gone so long.

I drove to her house, where Hilary explained that her sons had found it recently and had managed to recharge it and figure out (from the homescreen) to whom it belonged. I was relieved to get it back.

Many, many thanks to Hilary’s sons Phineas, Nathaniel, and Theodore. It is nice to know there are honest folks who are willing to take the time to return a lost object to its owner.
