A mixed bag for Bainbridge athletes at state

TACOMA – Bainbridge athletes had good and bad performances at their respective state meets.
For the gymnastics team, they just missed earning a trophy at the 1A/2A/3A state meet at the Tacoma Dome Exhibition Hall, finishing fifth with 161.325 points. Adrienne Palay became the first Bainbridge gymnast since 2007 to qualify for an individual event, as she tied with three other girls for 13th in the balance beam.
The wrestling team had a tough go at Mat Classic XXIII ay the Tacoma Dome. Four wrestlers – Dylan Read, Alex Hoover, Mike Grant and Karl Hunt all went two and out, while Corey Touchette went 1-2.
The boys’ swim team had several swimmers qualify for finals.
Andrew McCarthy is the top seed in the 500 freestyle finals. He also qualified for the finals of the 200 freestyle.
Colin Chupik is in the finals of the 50 and 100 freestyle while Spencer Alpaugh is in the 200 individual medley and 500 freestyle finals.
Todd McCarthy made the 200 freestyle consolation finals and the 500 freestyle consolation finals while Alex Nowjack made the consolation finals in the 100 backstroke
The 200 medley relay team of Andrew McCarthy, Todd McCarthy, Jared Bell and Chupik are in the consolation finals while the 200 freestyle relay team did not qualify for the finals.
The 400 freestyle relay team of Todd McCarthy, Andrew McCarthy, Alpaugh and Chupik is seeded fifth in the finals.
