Spartan athletics are in full swing at Bainbridge High School as eight teams kick off the fall season. While five veteran head coaches return, three first-year coaches have stepped into new roles as leaders of the golf and water polo programs. With just a week of practice under their belts, BHS’ head coaches share their insight on the upcoming season.

Coach: Ian Havill, first year

2009 result: Third in 3A state tournament; Anna Bourland third overall

Seniors graduated: Anna Bourland and Peyton Lunzer

Varsity returners: Annika van Houte, Jasmine Shattuck, Maddy Devlin, Julia Gross, Tara Wilford, Hannah Gault and Miranda Smith

Contest to look forward to: “Holy Names is the one that’s kind of a rival. They’re the one that’s circled on the schedule.”

What needs to happen for the Spartans to be successful in their first contest against Seattle Prep Sept 7: “Continue to work on fundamentals and being prepared to play tournament golf. It’s more likely to be kind of a solid team that has everyone contributing, than a star player.”
