Spartan athletics are in full swing at Bainbridge High School as eight teams kick off the fall season. While five veteran head coaches return, three first-year coaches have stepped into new roles as leaders of the golf and water polo programs. With just a week of practice under their belts, BHS’ head coaches share their insight on the upcoming season.
Coach: Andy Grimm, 13th year
2009 record: 5-5 (2-3 in Metro, third place)
Post-season result: District tournament, 44-6 loss to Lingbergh.
Seniors graduated: Jordan Wagner (QB), Alex Johnson (RB/LB), MJ Cox (TE/DE), Jason Haley (QB/DB) and Josh Peters (RB/DB)
Returning starters: Alec Grimm (C/DT), Logan Dieterich (OT/DT), Will Deveraux (K/P), Chris Bell (QB/DB), Alex Crane (RB/DB), Brandon Conner (OT/DT), Will Rynerson (G/LB), Corey Touchette (RB/LB), Carson Zajonc (QB/DB) and Sam Orrey (G/LB)
Senior team leaders: Grimm, Zajonc, Touchette and Jack Bonnington (RB/LB)
Deepest position: “Offensive line is the most experienced.”
Key newcomers: Alex Caplan (RB/DB), Karl Hunt (T/RG), Henry Indvik (TE/LB), Nich Miller (RB/FS), Josh Molskness (G/LB) and Eric Raustein (WR/DB)
Contest to look forward to: “The North Kitsap game is the biggest to start the season.”
What needs to happen for the Spartans to be successful in their first contest against North Kitsap Sept. 3: “Be ready to play mentally and physically. Go to their house and get a win.”
