Power outages linger on Bainbridge following gusty Sunday

Portions of Bainbridge Island were blanketed in snow on Sunday.

By the time the snow melted, high winds had begun to roll across the island. Fallen trees caused spot power outages and property damage.

As of Monday, there were still pockets of power outages around the island, but a PSE spokesperson said all power is expected to be returned by the evening.

The Bainbridge Island Fire Department received 25 calls between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. According to BIFD Operations Chief Luke Carpenter four calls involved trees fallen on houses.

“There were no serious medical calls and no serious fires in all of this,” Carpenter said.

The National Weather Service had issued a late wind advisory predicting winds with sustained speeds of 20-30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph. The advisory expired at 11 p.m.

According to Puget Sound Energy, service interruptions were reported throughout Kitsap and neighboring counties. Power outages forced the Celluloid Bainbridge Film Festival to be relocated on Sunday.

The National Weather Service is calling for showers throughout the week on Bainbridge, and a high temperature of 50 degrees.
