JANUARY 23
6:44 a.m. Suspects broke into a Parfitt Way business overnight and stole more than $2,500 from locked safes inside. A side door of the building appeared to have been pried open. Two safes were found in the businesses’ kitchen, along with a broken kitchen knife, which may have been used as a prying device. The cash register had also been pried open and an estimated $300 was missing from its drawers. A pair of blue mittens were found in the business. Damage to the door was estimated at $1,000. The business owner provided police with a list of current and former employees but could give no suspect information. The investigation continues.
9:33 a.m. A bicycle abandoned at the public library was turned over to police. It was entered as found property.
JANUARY 24
9:23 a.m. A worker at a site on High School Road slipped on an icy roof and fell 20 feet onto a concrete patio. The man suffered minor lacerations and was transported to a hospital for evaluation.
JANUARY 25
3:18 p.m. An officer stopped a Chevy pickup on Dolphin Drive after observing it driving with an unsecured load of branches. The branches extended five feet behind the vehicle, dragging on the ground and obscuring the vehicle’s license plate. The officer uncovered the license plate and found its registration was expired. The officer notified the pickup’s driver that he had been stopped for the unsecured load and registration. The driver volunteered that he had a suspended license and an outstanding warrant for theft. The driver was cited and a passenger was allowed to drive the vehicle away.
8:45 p.m. A woman flagged down an officer on Winslow Way and turned over a Verizon cell phone found near a picnic table in the parking lot of the police station. The phone was wet and its battery was dead. It was entered as found property.
JANUARY 27
7:30 a.m. The driver of a Nissan Pathfinder lost control on a wet roadway on Lynwood Center Road near Jane Lane. The vehicle hit a renovation sign before flipping onto its top on the side of the road. No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.
11:28 a.m. Police received information on the wherabouts of a man wanted for assault. The man was reportedly onboard a boat at a local marina. Police responded to the marina and saw the suspect’s vehicle in the parking lot. The man was contacted at the boat and arrested. He told officers there could be marijuana onboard the boat. A small amount of marijuana and a scale containing marijuana residue was found onboard the boat. A box containing 9 millimeter and .380 caliber ammunition were also found. A search of the vehicle turned up two small bags containing what appeared to be methamphetamine. The vehicle was found to have been stolen. The man was transported to Kitsap County Jail.
7:50 p.m. A wallet found in a parking lot off Winslow Way was turned in to police. It contained a driver’s license belonging to a Port Townsend resident. The wallet also held cash and various cards. It was placed into evidence for safekeeping.
JANUARY 28
11:52 a.m. A Honda Pilot turning from New Brooklyn Road onto Madison Avenue and hit a Lexus RX motoring northbound on Madison Avenue. The driver of the Honda was cited for failing to yield. The Honda was towed.
1:47 p.m. Police were contacted after a student and parent became belligerent with staff at a Bainbridge school and refused to leave the campus. Officers escorted the pair off school grounds.
8:20 p.m. Police responded to a report of students climbing on the roof of Wilkes Elementary School. A group of juveniles was contacted near the school. The case was recorded.
10:22 p.m. A Lariat Loop resident called police to report an incessantly barking dog. An officer responded and found a small, white poodle barking in the driveway of a home. The dog ran to the front door when the officer approached. The temperature was in the 30s and the officer noted the poodle “did not appear to be an outdoor-type dog.” A homeowner came to the door and attempted to catch the dog, which promptly scurried into a neighboring yard. A report was forwarded to the humane society.
JANUARY 29
9:55 p.m. An Eagle Harbor liveaboard contacted police to report the theft of an anchoring system from a sailboat in the harbor. The sailboat was registered in Bremerton and had been tied at the linear moorage system. The liveaboard relayed suspect information to police. The case was forwarded to the department’s marine officer and the harbormaster.
JANUARY 3
12:21 p.m. A Volkswagen Passat was stolen overnight from a residence on Country Club Road. The resident said the vehicle had been locked and no one had spare keys for the vehicle. The vehicle was reported as stolen.
2 p.m. A Carene Lane resident reported that someone had burglarized his home and apparently stayed overnight while the residents were away on an extended trip. The residents had retuned to their home to find several lights left on and various items including lipstick scattered in their bedroom. A manual for a web-cam was also found. Nothing was missing from the residence but the couple received a $300 electricity bill for the month they were gone. The resident said an ex-girlfriend was a possible suspect.
4:27 p.m. A Sunrise Drive resident reported several vinyl records stolen from her home and said her her ex-husband was a likely suspect. The case was recorded.
7:15 p.m. A Vineyard Lane resident told police that someone had entered her unlocked house while she was out walking her dog. The resident said she believed the suspect had turned off her heater and refrigerator and stolen food before leaving. The resident suspected one of her neighbors of the mischief but did not have proof.
JANUARY 31
3:18 p.m. Mail containing tax documents was reported stolen from an unlocked Volkswagen van parked at Safeway. The case was recorded.
4:50 p.m. A suspect used a large rock to break the window of a Ford Escort parked on Grow Avenue and steal a purse from its front seat. The car’s owner said she had been inside her house at the time of the theft but had not heard the incident. No suspects.
