Police Blotter
Bainbridge Police reported the following incidents:
JANUARY 7
9:53 a.m. Two hundred dollars was discovered missing from a cash box stored in a locked file cabinet in a school office on Madison Avenue. The cash had gone missing sometime during the winter holiday. There was only one entrance to the building and no signs of forced entry were found. Other valuable items in the room, including laptop computers and musical instruments were left unmolested and the office was not ransacked, indicating the suspect was familiar with the room. The reporting party said she had no suspects from her staff but several parents are also familiar with the room. No suspects.
10:09 a.m. An iPod found at Battle Point Park was turned into the station. It was placed in storage for safekeeping. The finder asked to claim to item if an owner was not identified.
JANUARY 8
9:231 a.m. Registration and proof of insurance were stolen overnight from a vehicle parked at a Manzanita Lane residence. The vehicle’s owner said he had noticed papers scattered around the car that morning and found its driver’s side door ajar. No suspects.
10:17 p.m. A Rose Avenue resident called police after a vehicle rammed the garage door of a neighboring home. He said he had been working in his home office when he heard a crash and looked out to see a small truck leaving the residence.
10:47 p.m. An officer was dispatched to Spargur Loop to investigate a report of vehicle ramming a garage door and driving away. The reporting resident told the officer a dark-colored truck with loud exhaust had crashed into her garage doors, severely damaging them. She said she watched the truck back out of her driveway and leave the scene. Damage to the door was estimated at $1,000.
JANUARY 9
11:56 p.m. A Bainbridge officer and K9 unit assisted Poulsbo Police in the searching a vehicle following a traffic stop on Lincoln Road. A small amount of heroin had been found on the driver’s person. The K9 unit sniffed out a CD case that contained two syringes and a tin containing heroin paraphernalia. The items were taken into evidence and Bainbridge units cleared the scene.
8:28 p.m. A Buick was stopped by an officer on Madison Avenue after it ran a stop sign on High School Road. The officer contacted the driver and recognized her as a convicted felon with a history of narcotics violations. The woman said she had just left a High School Road restaurant where she had drunk one drink. The woman smelled strongly of alcohol and appeared intoxicated and lethargic. The officer asked the woman if she would complete voluntary field sobriety tests. The woman said she was concerned about the tests because she had just been drinking in a bar and had used heroin and Percocet earlier that evening. She eventually agreed to cooperate and was arrested following field sobriety tests and a breath test. A K9 unit was called in to search her vehicle. The K9 alerted to a small amount of black tar heroin in a purse, multiple burnt spoons and a used marijuana pipe. An open container for an alcoholic energy drink was found on the floor of the vehicle. The woman was booked into Kitsap County Jail.
JANUARY 10
1:51 a.m. Two Bainbridge officer assisted Poulsbo Police and Sheriff’s deputies in executing a search warrant for narcotics at a Front Street apartment in Poulsbo. The Bainbridge officer aided in clearing the apartment and detained two males in the living room. The officer noted a significant amount of marijuana, Ecstasy, LSD and mushrooms as well as paraphernalia in the apartment. Bainbridge officers cleared after the scene was secured.
8:24 a.m. A resident called 911 to report a large boat sinking at a dock on Eagle Harbor. The police boat responded and tied onto the stricken vessel, which was let loose from the dock. A pump was set onboard and began pumping. The Coast Guard and Department of Ecology were contacted. Bainbridge Fire also responded. After several minutes of pumping the boat’s galley still held 2 feet of water, which was contaminated with lube oil. An oil spill trailer was towed to the scene and an oil boom was extended around the vessel as a precaution. The owner of the boat arrived and told police the boat had a leaky seal but its pumps had been working. The owner said he would set up a new pump.
4:50 p.m. Police responded to McDonald’s after a caller reported that a suspicious man had tried to feed marijuana to his teenage daughter and her friend. The girls reportedly approached the man at the restaurant and asked him to buy them cigarettes. The girls said the man later came to their table and showed them a marijuana pipe. He emptied the contents of the pipe onto their table and told them to eat it. The girls were frightened and left the restaurant. One girl’s father later called 911. Police contacted a suspect who said he had talked to the girls in McDonald’s and refused to buy the girls cigarettes. He admitted to greeting them at their table but denied attempting to feed them marijuana. A search of his person turned up no drugs or paraphernalia. The man said he would avoid McDonald’s in the future.
