Cruisin’ to beat cancer: Riders hit the road for Obliteride | Photo gallery

Bicyclists from around the region could be seen, bedecked in orange, on Bainbridge Island streets Saturday for the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center’s annual Obliteride riding event.

The ride has thus far raised nearly $9.5 million for lifesaving cancer research since it began, according to Obliteride officials.

Fred Hutch has been the home of Nobel-prize winning research, including the development and refinement of bone marrow transplantation. Bone Marrow Transplantation has boosted survival rates from nearly zero to 90 percent for certain types of Leukemia.

The Review’s Luciano Marano caught up with the riders as they left the Bainbridge ferry terminal. Here’s a gallery of his favorite shots.
