Island Power, a locally grown, locally owned power source option for Bainbridge, recently received its Certificate of Incorporation as a nonprofit from the state of Washington.

“After a successful May 9 meeting at the Grange, we decided to make our ad hoc group more official,” said Jane Lindley, co-chair of Island Power. “Plus, as a non-profit, we can open a bank account and start taking donations.”

The Island Power initiative involves Bainbridge Island residents interested in creating a nonprofit electric utility for the people of Bainbridge Island.

The non-profit’s fundamentals support reliable, local, renewable energy and democratic control of a local energy system.
