Garbage truck catches on fire

Bainbridge Island firefighters might not usually say their job stinks, but that was before today.

Fire crews responded to a call at the island’s waste processing facility off Vincent Road where a garbage truck had caught on fire Wednesday morning.

The truck itself was not ablaze, rather, the garbage itself. Black smoke poured from the rear of the truck as it was unloading the day’s garbage pick-up.

It is not known what caused the blaze, but the material in the heap provided plenty of fuel to burn. Firefighters, however, were able to knock down the flames within 20 minutes.
