Bainbridge blotter | DUI on the Bainbridge ferry

Selected reports from the Bainbridge Island Police Department blotter.

THURSDAY, OCT. 5

6:08 p.m. Police were asked to assist a Washington State Ferry crew when dealing with a suspected drunk driver who had struck two bicyclists while driving onto the boat.

The driver, 54, of Poulsbo, told police the sun had been in his eyes when he hit the riders, and said he hadn’t had anything to drink since the previous evening.

Detecting the odor of intoxicants, and noting the man’s red eyes, police asked him to perform a breathalyzer test, which he agreed to do.

He blew a .228.

The man gave ferry crew members permission to drive his truck off the boat and was himself walked off by police and handed over to state troopers. He performed poorly on sobriety tests and was arrested by the Washington State Patrol.

His truck was impounded.

Neither cyclist was injured.

FRIDAY, OCT. 6

9:57 p.m. A 32-year-old Bainbridge Island woman called police to report a verbal domestic dispute between herself and a housemate.

She said the couple were separating, but feels the man is upset over “losing control” of her.

She said he is controlling several of her electronic devices in order to keep tabs on her.

The woman said they’d recently received an offer on their house and a previous domestic violence case in which she is a suspect is nearly resolved, all of which she feels upset the man. He had made dinner that night, she said, but she left when he began to argue about finances.

The woman told police the man uses the police and “others” to manipulate multiple women. She was not concerned about the argument that night, she said, but was more interested in sharing this information with police.
