Deets has the qualities we need | Letter to the editor

To the editor:

In the 35 years I have lived on the island, I have seen many mayors and city council members come and go; some outstanding, some not so much, but sound nonetheless, and a very few truly forgettable (to be charitable).

In this representative democracy that we have, we hope that those we elect will truly represent all of us, not just the few to whom they may feel beholden. We hope that they will do this with passion, honesty, and respect for all opinions.

We want them to be good listeners, articulate, and able to work as part of a team with the ability to make reasonable compromises for the good of all.

I truly believe that Joe Deets is someone who can do all of that. This is a job that I could never do, and I am grateful that Joe not only wants to do it, but does so because he loves this island we all call home.
