Seven cross-country teams from Kitsap County competed in their league championships over the last few days.
The Bainbridge boys team finished second in the Pierce County League 3A Championships with 68 points, behind Lakes High School. The Spartans top three runners included Ben Crandall finishing fifth with a time of 16 minutes, 42. seconds; Bodie Strom 11th in 17:14.4 and Laird Ferrel 13th im 17:22.2.
The Bainbridge girls also finished second with 65 points; Stadium was first. The Spartans top three runners included Sabine Hartenstine finishing sixth in 20:08.4, Cara Brundige ninth in 20:35.6, and Claire Hungerford 14th in 21:00.3
North Kitsap’s girls team shined its silver medals after earning 66 points. Kendall Becker finished fourth in 21:45.65, Georgia Nelson fifth in 21:48.66 and Corinne Aala 14th in 23:19.18.
The boys team fell into fifth place out of seven teams with 69 points. Quinny Stuart was the Vikings top runner by placing sixth in 16:59.36. Liam Johnson finished 15th in 17:55.93 and Miles Bearden 23rd in 18:44.62.
Kingston girls won their league title with 48 points and the boys also won with 38 points. Emmie McGrew was the top girl runner placing sixth in 22:11.07. Teammates Isabell Hunt and Arlana Forbes-Prater finished eighth and 10th with times of 22:47.43 and 22:55.57.
The Buc boys team was led by champion Lucas Lenz with a time of 15:59.23. Luke Whalen ended up in third place in 16:29.08 and Emmanuel Moes finished eighth in 17:23.27.
South Kitsap boys finished seventh out of nine teams in the South Puget Sound League 4A Championships with 160 points. Isaac Benjamin was the lone runner finishing in the Top 10, placing eighth with a time of 16 minutes, 53.1 seconds. The next two runners were Andrew Draper finishing 27th in 17:45.6 and James Hardin finishing 40th in 18:09.8.
The SK girls team finished fifth out of eight with 97 points. Lauren Laws finished second overall in 19:15.8, Joan Hampton finished 22nd in 21:10 and Mara Lenza 27th in 21:38.8.
The Central Kitsap boys dominated its league meet, completing a perfect sweep—finishing first through fifth. Blake Reynolds won in 16:23.1, Mana Voss was second in 16:23.7, Michael Vlach third in 16:26.9, David McClain fourth in 16:36.3 and Gavin Brown fifth in 16:38.2.
CK’s girls also won the league title with 29 points, having six girls place in the Top 10. Clare Herring finished second with 18:32.49, Audra Palmer finished fifth with 18:41.2, Camryn Bishoff finished sixth with 19:10.6, Taylor Palmer finished seventh with 19:34 and Luma Voss finished 10th with 20:05.4.
Klahowya competed in the Nisqually League championships at Port Townsend Oct. 17. The boys beat the other five teams with 49 points. Six runners placed in the Top 15 out of 67 runners.
Carson Wintch finished fifth in 17:52, Malachi Mardo finished eighth in 18:02.09, Sawyer Hermosura-Roark was 11th in 18:31.4, Aiden Smith 12th in 18:49.9, Tyler Larson 13th in 18:54.5 and Marek Ruttler 15th in 19:01.5.
On the girls side, Klahowya finished second by just two points, finishing with 35 while Port Townsend had 33. Natalie Oathout earned a bronze medal in 19:16.7. Ella Salo finished fifth in 21:39.09, Amelia Mayes sixth in 21:40.7, Samantha Schofield 11th in 22:57.09 and Jordan Clark 12th in 23:05.79.
Olympic’s boys team finished second with 69 points while the girls finished fourth with 78.
Samuell Bonsell led the Trojans with a fifth-place finish in 16:57.35. Joshua Turner finished seventh in 17:16.7 and Justin Jaramillo 11th in 17:37.03. The girls top three runners were: Brynn Fulton, who won with a time of 20:36.41, Sophia MacDonald 12th in 22:56.9 and Cassia Whittier 15th in 23:28.04.
Bremerton’s boys and girls teams both finished sixth with 118 and 171 points. The top boys included Dallin Anderson finishing second in 16:11.58, Asher Stewart ninth in 17:30.16 and Joshua Leuders 20th in 18:22.38.
The girls top runners included Ruby Hyde finishing 16th in 23:33.34, LaVon Thompson 35th in 26:26.75 and Giselle Tanner 46th in 28:25.57.
