Warkentin wins third in state golf

Island golf superstar Sam Warkentin took third place overall in the 2016 3A boys Washington Interscholastic Activities Association tournament on May 25 at Qualchan Golf Course in Spokane.

SPOKANE – Island golf superstar Sam Warkentin took third place overall in the 2016 3A boys Washington Interscholastic Activities Association tournament on May 25 at Qualchan Golf Course in Spokane.

With a first round score of 69, well below the required 80 to advance, and a second-round score of 73, Warkentin finished the contest with a total score of 142. He was the only Bainbridge player in the final rankings.

The top spot was a tie, with both Spencer Tibbits (for Vancouver) and Zach Evens (Mercer Island) finishing with 139.

Fellow Spartan golfers Nate Boegl and Brooks Wallace both just missed the mandatory 80 par cutoff score in the first round, finishing with 81 and 82, respectively.
