WING POINT — The Bainbridge High boys golf team stayed perfect after a critical win against Bishop Blanchet at the par-55 course at Wing Point late last week. The final score was 149-137.
The Sept. 26 victory pushed the team record to 4-0.
“It’s a big win for us,” Spartan Head Coach Tom Zuzelski.
The top three BHS scores were tied. Sam Warkentin, Andy Jonson and Nate Boegl all ended the game with score of 26.
The top two Blanchet players, TJ Gilbrough and Cameron Cooper, also finished the day with scores of 26.
When discussing whether a sort of home field advantage exists in golf, Zuzelski was adamant.
“Of course,” he said. “We know the greens. Even when these guys get in trouble they know how to get out and score.”
Ultimately, however, Zuzelski said that the concept of course familiarity is a disadvantage for the Spartans because they end up being experts at the wrong courses.
“That’s our disadvantage because the Metros are across the pond and the Districts are across the pond,” he said.
Between the boys undefeated spirits and the perfect golf weather in last Thursday’s game, Zuzelski was confident.
“If we don’t have some scores today we’re doing something wrong,” he said.
