Two Spartan sluggers named all-area stars

SEATTLE – Two Bainbridge High athletes were named as part of the 2014 Seattle Times’ Star Times all-area teams.

Riley Gregoire, a BHS junior, was selected as part of the all-area softball team.

Gregoire “dazzles in the field,” according to the newspaper’s player description. “She batted .562 in leading Bainbridge back to the 3A state tournament and is considered the team’s best all-around player.”

Tino Peleti, a BHS senior, was selected as part of the all-area baseball team.

“Opposing Metro League coaches noted Peleti’s power and feared his ability to change the course of the game with one swing,” according to the newspaper’s player description.

Peleti is the first BHS baseball player to be selected by the Seattle Times in at least four years, according to Spartan Head Coach David Smart.

The special report, begun in the 1970s, is the newspaper’s selection of the most talented players in high school spring sports. In all, 33 players and three coaches were selected from regional baseball, softball and boys soccer teams.

The feature was the dominant sports item in the May 26 issue, and included large color photos of the selected athletes.

The name “Star Times” is a reference to the “Star Wars” film series, which also premiered in the ‘70s.
