Following a no-action Monday on the heels of an extended holiday break, Spartan sports resumes Tuesday, Jan. 6 with the Bainbridge High boys swim team traveling to Mercer Island for a meet in Mary Wayte Pool. The meet starts at 3:30 p.m.
Also Tuesday, the Spartan boys basketball teams will play host to Metro foe Franklin at BHS.
The first tip-offs are at 5:15 p.m. for the junior varsity and C teams. The JV team will play in Paski Gymnasium, while the C team will challenge the Quakers in the Commodore Gym.
The varsity boys game will follow the JV game at 7 p.m. in Paski Gymnasium.
The Spartan wrestlers will head to Kingston High for a wrestling match that starts at 6 p.m. Tuesday. Weigh-ins are at 5 p.m.
On Wednesday, Jan. 7, the Spartan girls varsity basketball team will welcome the Franklin Quakers to Bainbridge for a game at 7 p.m. (The JV girls game planned for Wednesday has been cancelled.)
On Thursday, Jan. 8, the Bainbridge grapplers will head to the Eastside for a quad match at Eastside Catholic High School. Other teams joining the Spartans and the Crusaders at the meet include Roosevelt and Franklin, and Bainbridge will face Franklin in the first round. The meet starts at 6 p.m.
On Friday, Jan. 9, the Spartan gymnastics team continues its early season home stand with a meet against Ballard and Chief Sealth. The meet begins at 6 p.m. in the gymnastics gym.
Also Friday, the Bainbridge basketball teams will play on the road against Cleveland High.
Making the trip to Beacon Hill are the girls and boys varsity and JV teams.
Hoops action starts with the girls JV matchup at 3:15, followed by the boys JV game at 4:45 p.m.
The girls varsity game is at 6:15, followed by the boys varsity game at 8 p.m.
Also on the road Friday: the Spartans boys swim team. BHS will compete against Chief Sealth/West Seattle at Southwest Pool in Seattle. The meet starts at 3:30 p.m.
The week in Spartan sports wraps up with a busy Saturday on the Rock and off.
The Spartans host the 33rd Island Invitational Wrestling Tournament on Saturday, Jan. 10 in Paski Gymnasium.
The tourney gets underway at 9:30 a.m. Wrestlers from 12 different teams— including Columbia River, Franklin, Franklin Pierce, Interlake, Kingston, Marysville-Getchell, Mercer Island, Mountlake Terrace, North Kitsap, North Mason and Sequim — are expected to compete.
Off Bainbridge, the BHS swimmers and hoops teams will have a busy day.
The Spartan boy swim team travels to Federal Way for an invitational at the King County Aquatics Center.
The BHS basketball teams head across the water for games at Eastside Catholic for make-up games that were originally scheduled for early December but postponed.
The girls JV team takes on the Crusaders at 2 p.m. Saturday, followed by the boys C team and JV games at 3:45 p.m.
The day ends with a varsity double-header, with the girls playing at 5:15 and the boys following at 7 p.m.
