Ropeskipping
Five members of the Bainbridge Island Ropeskippers will perform in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York.
Bainbridge High School students Anna Mather, Emily Applewhite, Ally Clement and Molly Harrison and Woodward student Abigail Harrison were selected to Team USA by the U.S. Jump Rope Federation. The five jumpers auditioned after the nationals competition in Galveston, Texas, which had more than 1,000 competitors from 35 states.
Team USA, which is composed of 150 jumpers from 30 teams across the country, will perform in the 2.5-mile parade and at Herald Square. The Herald Square performance will include all 150 Team USA members performing a double-dutch routine.
The jumpers depart for New York on Saturday, and will hold workshops at New York City public schools and the YMCA on Monday.
On Wednesday, Team USA will audition for NBC and Macy’s for the chance to appear on television during the parade.
In addition to performing in the parade, Team USA will help serve meals in soup kitchens on Thanksgiving.
