Girls Basketball

The girls team lost to Tumwater 51-37 Saturday. Senior Rebecca Sharar posted a team-high 10 points and eight rebounds.

Gymnastics

The Bainbridge gymnastics team held a judged, intrasquad meet at the high school at 3:45 p.m. Friday.

The Spartans will host their first regular-season meet against Shorecrest, Shorewood, Nathan Hale and Ingraham at 6 p.m. Dec. 11.

Swimming

Central Kitsap defeated the Bainbridge boys swim team 102-81 Tuesday. Only 15 Spartan swimmers competed, but the team qualified for the state swim meet in seven events.

Bainbridge’s 200-yard medley relay and 400-yard freestyle relay both qualified with times of 1 minute, 46 seconds and 3:26:31, respectively.

Sophomore Colin Chupik qualified for the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard freestyle.

Senior David Ortyn qualified in the 200-yard freestyle and the 100-yard backstroke, and sophomore Andrew McCarthy qualified in the 500-yard freestyle.

Central Kitsap outscored Bainbridge 12-0 in diving because the team had no divers.

Bainbridge competed at Eastside Catholic at 3:30 p.m. Friday and traveled to Rainier Beach Saturday for a 13-school meet.

Solstice Run

The eighth annual solstice run will take place Dec. 12.

Participants can check in at Bainbridge Performing Arts, 200 Madison Ave., beginning at 8 a.m.

Fees are $20 for the one mile and 5k events, and $5 for the kids’ dashes.

The one mile fun run-walk begins at 9 a.m., and the 5k race starts at 9:30 a.m. The kids’ dashes begin at 10:30 a.m.

The overall male and female winners of each race will receive awards. Three awards will be given in each age group.

Girls Lacrosse

Registration for all 2010 lacrosse programs began Dec. 3 and will close Jan. 15. Girls from third grade through high school can compete in one of four programs: third-fourth grade, fifth-sixth grade, seventh-eighth grade, or high school.

Fees range from $150 to $445. A limited number of partial scholarships are available.

Youth Soccer

Registration for spring recreational soccer is open through March. Players will compete in 10 games from April to June, and will participate in two training sessions per week.

Fees range from $85 to $125, and include a team jersey, T-shirt and end-of-season jamboree. Scholarships are available. Players who register after Jan. 7 are subject to a fee increase.

Players will be placed in U4, U6, U8, U10, U12 or U14 groups by age, and will not be allowed to change age group.

There will also be a 3- and 4-year-old component that will be run during the day to compliment preschool schedules.
