SEATTLE – Bainbridge blasted Eastside Catholic 139-30 in the first boys swim and dive meet of the season late last week at Helene Madison Pool in Seattle, with the Spartans taking first in 10 of 12 events.
The big storyline, however, was the outstanding performances in the 50-yard freestyle, 100-yard backstroke, 100-yard breaststroke and 200-yard freestyle relay.
Three Spartans swimmers — and the 200-free relay team — can now pick out their seats on the team bus to the state championships next year.
Makai Ingalls punched his ticket to state with a 3A qualifying time of 22.21 in the 50-yard freestyle. (A time of 22.30 was needed to qualify.)
Garrett Waite also qualified for the state meet for the Spartans in the 100-yard backstroke. He finished first in 54.91 (state qualifying time is 56.99).
Kevin Houseman had a state time in the 100-yard breaststroke. He won the event in 1:00.66, well in front of the qualifying mark of 1:03.10.
The 200 free relay team of Parker Bushey, Carter Hall, Waite and Ingalls also earned a shot at state with their first-place time of 1:33.24 against Eastside Catholic. (A time of 1:33.50 is needed to qualify for the state championships.)
Overall, the Spartans dominated in the 200-yard medley relay, the 100-yard backstroke, the 100-yard breaststroke and the 200 free relay by taking the top three spots in each of those races.
Dylan Garthwaite also placed first in diving (183.80) for Bainbridge and teammate Gabriel Emert was second (168.55).
