Spartans prevail against Wildcats

The Spartans quickly rallied from an early deficit to stop West Seattle 7-2 in girls varsity soccer Thursday at Bainbridge Memorial Stadium.

BAINBRIDGE – The Spartans quickly rallied from an early deficit to stop West Seattle 7-2 in girls varsity soccer Thursday at Bainbridge Memorial Stadium.

The Wildcats scored first, when Kate Veenhuizen put West Seattle on the board with an unassisted goal in the 6th minute.

Mackenzie Chapman kicked in the equalizer for Bainbridge a minute later, scoring the Spartans’ first goal on a pass from Celia Story.

Chapman gave BHS a 2-1 advantage in the 16th minute after netting a pass from Riley Gregoire.

The Spartans then scored another three unanswered goals.

Gregoire put Bainbridge up 3-1 after taking a pass from Kamie Coryell to the goal in the 25th minute.

Story then scored on an unassisted shot in the 31st minute, and teammate Katherine Pecora scored her own unassisted goal in the 39th minute, and Bainbridge led 5-1.

West Seattle tried to respond in the second half, and Annie Murphy punched in a score in the 61st minute to cut the Spartan advantage to 5-2.

Gregoire earned her second score of the night in the 72nd minute with a goal off a pass from Coryell (her second assist of the night) and Bainbridge was back up by four, 6-2.

Story closed out the scoring in the 76th minute with Bainbridge’s final goal in the 76th minute (Pecora assist).
