The Bainbridge High football team hopes to break a three-game losing streak Thursday night when it faces Eastside Catholic in Sammamish. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

The teams have identical records (4-3 overall and 1-2 in Metro League play) and are playing to improve their placing in the district playoffs, which begin next weekend.

Eastside Catholic’s best performance of the year was a 20-19 loss to O’Dea two weeks ago. O’Dea scored a fourth-quarter touchdown to earn the win.

The Spartans will be short-handed against Eastside Catholic after Alex Coplan broke his collarbone and tight end Cameron Brink hurt his knee against O’Dea.

The Spartans have stumbled while playing the toughest part of its schedule, including a tough loss to Seattle Prep and then a 35-14 defeat to third-ranked (3A) O’Dea last Friday at West Seattle Stadium.

Bainbridge trailed 28-0 at halftime, but scored twice in the third quarter to narrow the margin to 28-14.

“We were driving again and reached midfield early in the fourth, but then had a penalty and a sack and just lost our momentum,” said coach Andy Grimm.

Quarterback Chris Bell led the Spartans’ offense. He rushed for 152 yards on 25 carries, including a six-yard scoring run. He completed five of 14 passes for 80 yards, including a 14-yard TD pass to Kyler Mikami.

Defensively, Nik Moore had eight unassisted tackles, while Logan Dieterich and Josh Molskness had seven apiece.
