Spartans make it a game, but fall to rival Irish

Chris Bell and Rico Failla combined for 49 points, but it wasn’t enough as the Bainbridge Spartans lost to the O’Dea Fighting Irish 89-74 Tuesday night at Paski Gymnasium.

Six Irish players scored in double figures, with Dustin Watts and Sekeo Wiggs scoring 21 points each.

Bainbridge kept with O’Dea through the first half, as Failla scored 15 of his 22 points as the Spartans went into the locker room down by three. He connected on three three pointers in the first quarter.

The Spartans stayed right with the Irish in the third quarter, with Chris Bell and Eric Raustein combining for six points to tie the game at 46. Failla sunk a three at the 4:18 mark to give Bainbridge its first lead of the game at 49-48.

The Irish countered with a 12-4 run to end the third, then took advantage of its athleticism in the fourth to run away with the game.

Bell led all scorers with 27 points. He also grabbed five rebounds and had two assists. Failla also had four rebounds and three steals.

Sophomore guard Michael Crowley, who had been sidelined with an ankle injury, returned in a big way with 10 assists, three steals and two points.

Raustein finished with six points, four rebounds, four steals and three assists.

Bainbridge hosts Lakeside at 6:15 p.m. Friday.
