SEATTLE – The Spartans won eight of 11 races — and took first in the 1-meter diving competition — to turn back Chief Sealth and West Seattle in girls varsity swimming and diving last week at the Southwest Athletic Complex.

Bainbridge won the meet and remained undefeated in the Metro League with a score of 120, while West Seattle had 85 and host Chief Sealth tallied 51.

The Spartans won the first race of the meet with a win by the foursome of Carina Laukaitis, Julia Lapin, Samantha Sinopole and Olivia Dow in the 200-yard medley relay. The girls finished with a time of 2:06.01.

Lapin also picked up a victory in the 200-yard freestyle, placing first in 2:26.70.

Sinopole won the 200-yard IM for BHS (2:40.62), while sister Spartan Surya Lee was second (2:47.70).

Lauren Witty placed first in the 50-yard freestyle for Bainbridge with a winning time of 27.49.

And in the 100-yard butterfly, the Spartans went one-two with Hannah Tonsmann taking first in 1:07.64 and Laukaitis securing second in 1:09.46.

Tonsmann also triumphed in the 100-yard backstroke, winning the race in 1:12.81.

Dow followed with a first-place win in the 100-yard breaststroke, touching the wall at 1:14.15.

In the 400-yard freestyle relay, the Spartan team of Surya Lee, Capri Fain, Jillian Webb and Emma Gace was first in 5:03.00.
