Spartans advance in tennis tourney

SEATTLE - The Bainbridge High coed varsity tennis team advanced several Spartans to the SeaKing District Championship semifinals after a strong showing during the quarterfinal matches Tuesday.

SEATTLE – The Bainbridge High coed varsity tennis team advanced several Spartans to the SeaKing District Championship semifinals after a strong showing during the quarterfinal matches Tuesday.

The BHS doubles team Ben DeVries and Eli Wagner were 6-0, 6-2 over a team from Lakeside High. The pair has already qualified for state, Devries’ fourth trip.

In singles, Holt Ogden beat a tough Bishop Blanchet senior in the first round 7-6, 6-3. He then lost to top seed, Oscar Burney from Garfield High.

Ogden would advance to play in the back draw Wednesday morning.

The young team of Jeremy Lipshutz and Alec Chan lost to a very well seeded team from Mercer Island.

BHS also served up some success at the All Comers Match as well.

Bainbridge’s Mason Ogden took the Boys Singles title for the second year in a row, and the Boys Doubles team of Ben Bergstrom and Avery Sand also claimed a title.

BHS tennis players competed in the 16-school All Comers tournament Saturday, May 16 and Monday, May 18 at Lower Woodland Park in Seattle.

Saturday, the team traveled to West Seattle where they met eight other south end schools.

The BHS boys won all of their matches.

Advancing to Monday’s quarterfinals were singles players Ogden, Jack Sloat and Michael Barrow and doubles teams Bergstrom and Sand, Sam Rabinowitz and Brendan Bennett, Eli Rogers and Jacob Carlson as well as Harrison Shinohara and MayaRutherford.

BHS girls’ doubles teams Mallory Browne and Nicole Daniels and Krista and Karlie Pickens won all their matches and also advanced to Monday’s quarterfinals.
