The Bainbridge Spartans girls basketball team kept their strong start to the season going by beating South Kitsap 54-24 on the road Dec. 15.
The Spartans improved to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in Olympic League play, while the Wolves fell to 0-5 on the season.
“I just see a team that really likes each other,” Bainbridge coach Zach Burnham said. “I really think there’s good team chemistry this year.”
The Spartans led 10-4 at the end of the first quarter, with center Anna Rowe leading the scoring with five.
Sylvi Allen ended SK’s scoring drought with a mid-range jump shot in the middle portion of the second quarter, while Rowe and company scored an additional 10 points, finding their offensive prowess.
Josie Knapp and Jordan Gardner led the Spartans at halftime with eight and six points, respectively, giving themselves a 31-10 lead at the break. Allen led SK with six points.
In the third quarter, the Spartans found their offensive spark from the first half, generating twelve points through the first four minutes of the quarter behind Gardner and Rowe. Gardner hit a three-pointer, pushing the Spartans’ lead to 31, nearly double SK’s total scoring output.
The Spartans led 47-18 at the end of three.
SK jumped out to a scoring run of their own in the beginning of the fourth quarter, outscoring the Spartans 6-2. Nonetheless, Spartan Kaela Cole quickly put an end to the Wolves’ run with a long two-pointer, getting the Spartans above 50 points for the third time this season.
“You know, it’s frustrating when you’re not playing as well as you can at the same point in time,” SK coach Nicole Fischer said.
