BAINBRIDGE – The Spartans 400-yard freestyle relay team qualified for the state 3A swimming championships during the Bainbridge’s win over visiting Port Angeles earlier this week at the Bainbridge Island Aquatics Center.
The BHS relay team of Sam Caro, Allison Murphy, Natalie Ackerley and Mikelle Ackerley raced to a first-place finish in 3:49.64. The state qualifying mark is 3:51.99.
Bainbridge won the meet with 118 points; Port Angeles tallied 68.
The Spartans finished first in nine of 12 events; the 200-yard IM, 50-yard freestyle, 1-meter diving, 100-yard butterfly, 100-yard freestyle, 500-yard freestyle, 200-yard freestyle relay, 100-yard backstroke and 400-yard freestyle relay.
Bainbridge dominated in the 50-yard freestyle, as Mikelle Ackerley, Caro and Amanda Comeau finished one, two, three, respectively.
The Spartans also owned the 500-yard freestyle, and took first, second and third place.
Caro claimed first in 5:42.78, while Julia Lapin was second in 5:57.44, and Ana Bucy was third in 6:09.30.
