KENNEWICK – The Bainbridge High Boys Doubles team of senior Keet Curtis and junior Ben DeVries finished third overall at the 3A State Tennis Championships at Kamiakin High School in Kennewick.

“This was Keet and Ben’s third straight state boys doubles tournament,” said Spartan Head Coach Mike Anderson. “They progressed from no placing to sixth to third in three appearances with an overall five win, five loss record.”

The first day of the championships saw the Spartan duo beat a team from Shorecrest 6-1, 6-4 in the first round, then defeat a Kennedy Catholic team 6-2, 7-6 (8) to qualify for the semifinal round.

On the second day, the number-one team from Mercer Island proved too good to beat, and stopped BHS 6-2, 6-2.

Mercer Island went on to win the 2014 State Championship.

The duo from Bainbridge bounced back in the third/sixth place match and beat Lakeside 7-6 (2), 6-4 to finish third.

The third-place finish in boys doubles gave the team a fifth-place boys finish overall at the tournament.

“Senior Curtis completes his season with 22 wins and three losses, bringing his high school career record to a combined 65 wins against 20 losses in both singles and doubles,” explained Anderson. “Keet is tied [for the] second overall [best record] in career boys victories at Bainbridge High School.”
