Solseng is now Metro champion

Another one of the Spartans’ legion of swimming superheroes has made history yet again.

Emma Solseng broke the Bainbridge High record in the 100-yard breaststroke with a stunning performance at last weekend’s Metro League Championships in girls swimming & diving.

Solseng won the race in 1:04.58, and in the process, broke a BHS record that has stood since 2015.

The newly minted Metro champ — a freshman — has also been a part of the 200-yard medley team that set a pool record this season, as well as a member of the Spartans’ record-setting team in the 200-yard freestyle.

And so, the list goes on. Solseng was part of the 200-free relay team that shattered the Spartan Relay mark in that event earlier this year, and also broke two meet records at the 2019 Mukilteo Invite as part of the 200-medley and 400-free relay teams.

The Spartans placed second overall at the Metro League Championships, with 641 points to first-place Lakeside’s 663.5.

“Last year we lost to them by 158 points — so I like the trajectory!” noted Spartan Coach Sarah Bullock.

Bainbridge placed first in the 200-yard medley relay, with Margaret Hayes, Solsen, Moorea Eldon-Everts and Xaveria Rodriguez winning the event in 1:47.28 for the Metro title.

The relay team of Rodriguez, Syndey Sorenson, Solseng and Hayes also claimed the Metro title in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a first-place time of 1:37.45.

The Spartans now advance to Districts, scheduled for Friday, Nov. 8 and Saturday, Nov. 9 at Mercer Island.
