Seriously speedy: Godfrey claims five wins

Pulling ahead of the pack in the largest and most competitive age group at Monday’s Kiwanis All-Comers Track Meet, Catrina Godfrey, 6, went on to win all five events she entered and become the speedy standout of the night.

The year’s next-to-last contest also saw star performances from Christopher Bourgeois, 4, Milo Kilby, 7, Howard Howlett, 8, Anthony Rabang, 12, and Karina Dennon, 9, each of whom won four events apiece.

Several of the more mature runners were no slouches either, event organizer Paul Benton said.

“There was some serious speed at the end of Monday’s penultimate All Comers Track Meet, as a quartet of cross country boys — Lindsey, Ledoux, Hall, Ruggiero — ran the 4×100 relay in a season’s best 53.7 [seconds].

“On the other hand,” he added, “joggers were showing an increasingly keen sense of disciplined pace as two runners, Lyndsay Beauline and Brooke Rufo-Hill, both finished the mile a single second under their 7:45 predicted time, while Mark Ulloa was just two seconds over and Jeff Brown three.”

The final meet of the summer will begin at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 15 at Bainbridge High School. There, championship trophies will be awarded to the boy and girl who have won the most collective points this summer, and several runners-up will be honored as well.

Girls in contention for the Kiwanis All-Comers Meet Season Champion Award, Benton said, include Liviana Eatinger, 3, Ema Delecki, 5, Catrina Godfrey, 6, and the Dennon sisters: Darya, 7, and Karina, 9.

Among the contending boys are Christopher Bourgeois, 4, Charley King, 5, Howard Howlett, 8, and Caleb Nelson, 10.
