Both the boys and girls Spartan varsity basketball teams were defeated by Seattle Prep, when the Bainbridge High School varsity squads traveled to face off against the Panthers in the year’s first basketball contest Jan. 3.

First, the girls were bested 72-36, their first loss after a four-game winning streak.

Then, the boys lost 53-37, their second consecutive defeat after a Dec. 30 out-of-state loss during a team trip.

The girls followed the loss with another defeat Jan. 4 to Franklin (52-46), dropping their overall record to 5-6 (3-4 in conference) as of Monday. They hold the sixth-place spot in the Metro standings, tied with Rainier Beach.

Results were not immediately available in the wake of the boys’ game against Franklin last Saturday, and their overall record was 4-6 (2-4 in conference).

They occupy the seventh-place spot in the Metro standings, tied with Bishop Blanchet.

Both teams returned home this week to host Chief Sealth and will remain at home Friday, Jan. 10 to host Rainier Beach.
