SEATTLE – Zora Opalka won first place for the Bainbridge Spartans in 1-meter diving at the Metro League Girls Swimming Championship last week at Garfield High.
With changes in classification earlier this year, the Metro League moved its girls swimming and diving meets to the fall to align the season with the rest of the state, making this year’s winners in the Metro Championships not only the first-ever, but also record-setters as well.
Opalka placed first in diving with a score of 399.30.
Teammate Cammie Rouser was second, with a score of 351.15.
Mikelle Ackerley also had a great meet.
The Spartan swimmer finished second in the 200-yard freestyle, and finished with a state-qualifying time of 1:57.40.
Ackerley also placed second in the 100-yard freestyle, with a state-qualifying time of 54.34.
Lakeside won the meet with a team score of 678.
The Spartans placed second, with 667 points, followed by Roosevelt in third with 543.
