Metro League remains 3A, with possible changes

The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association announced the final classification ranges for 2010-2012 Friday.

Bainbridge, listed with 1121.25 students, was the only team from the Metro League assigned to the 3A based on enrollment.

All the other Metro League teams – Bishop Blanchet, Cleveland, Chief Sealth, Eastside Catholic, Franklin, Holy Names, Ingraham, Lakeside, Nathan Hale, O’Dea, Rainier Beach, Seattle Prep and West Seattle – opted up to compete in the 3A.

Of the 3A’s 66 schools, 19 opted up from 2A and three from 1A.

Eastside Catholic, however, is attempting to move to the 3A KingCo League, while Kennedy Catholic hopes to join the Metro. Both teams will be notified whether their changes are approved by mid-January, Bainbridge High Athletic Director Annette Duvall said.

Schools that have not given their notice to opt-up have until Jan. 15 to notify the WIAA, and must go through an approval process.

The 2010-2012 classifications will be finalized Jan. 24
