BHS loses title game, seeded 9th for state

Bainbridge is seeded ninth for the state 3A soccer tournament that starts May 20.

The Spartans will face eighth-seeded Monroe at a site and time to be determined. The winner plays the next day for the chance to be in the top four, advancing to the finals May 27-28 at Sparks Stadium in Puyallup.

Bainbridge lost to sixth seed Stadium 1-0 in the District 3/4 3A boys soccer title game last week.

In District 2/3 2A, North Kitsap lost to second-seeded Franklin Pierce Saturday 1-0 after staying alive with a 5-4 win over 11th seed Highline. Earlier, NK, seeded third, lost to sixth seed CP 1-0.

Kingston was eliminated after losing to FP Thursday 2-1. Earlier, 14th seeded Kingston edged ninth-seed Foster 3-2.

In girls fastpitch softball North Kitsap beat North Mason Friday 5-2, after edging Port Angeles Thursday 11-10 and pounding Bremerton 14-4 Tuesday.

Bainbridge lost to Olympic Friday 8-3 after losing to North Mason 5-3 Thursday.

Golf

After placing fifth in the Olympic League’s regular season, the North Kitsap boys golf team finished a surprising second in the league tournament Monday at Kitsap Golf & Country Club.

Two team members, Mac MacKinnon and Jake Poggi, qualified directly to state with their rounds. MacKinnon placed third overall and Poggi sixth.

Teammate Nicolas Smith-Cuprill still has a shot for state as he also qualified for districts.

“It was a great showing by the boys, and the first time we’ve sent players to state in awhile,” coach Dan Weedin said in an email.
