Baseball and softball title games are next Friday at 6 p.m.

The Bainbridge Island Little League playoffs are in full swing with the playoffs in sight.

In several first round games, the A’s defeated the Red Sox 6-5 in a thriller in a first round playoff matchup at Hidden Cove.

Colin Neal pitched five solid innings for the Red Sox, striking out six and only allowing three runs.

Cameron Brink hit a three run shot over the left field fence in the fifth inning to put the Red Sox up by three, but the As’ rallied in the sixth, as Noah Clark, Grant Klausen and Alec Greiwe came up with the best two out rally of the season with key at bats and aggressive base running, thereby scoring the three runs they needed to seal the victory.

In another first round matchup, the Pirates defeated the Cubs 12-3 in a game that matched two teams with equal records and high hopes to advance to the next round.

The Cubs came out ready to play, and scored in the top of the first with back to back doubles.

But the Pirates evened the game in their half of the inning, and then went up 3-1 on a clutch two out double by Austin Harper with the bases loaded.

The Cubs scratched back, scoring two more runs with Paimon Jaberi driving both of them in.

But the Pirates added two more to keep things close through the fourth inning.

From there the Pirates managed to break the game open with good situational hitting and quality at bats.

Ian Gourley started for the Cubs and pitched four solid innings.

Adam Pool pitched beautifully through four innings for the Pirates while Andrew Hunt closed the game out.

Harper had three RBI for the Pirates while Tyler Martinez-Green had two.

The Reds moved on to the next round by defeating the Cardinals 2-0.

Reds pitcher Ryan Matthews and Cardinals pitcher Tyler Riely made it a pitchers duel for five innings.

Matthews pitched five scoreless innings with nine strikeouts while Riely pitched three scoreless innings.

In the top of the sixth the Reds’ Cody Hawken singled, followed by a hit by his brother, Jake.

Cody eventually scored on a passed ball while Jake scored the second run for the Reds on a hit from Will Droke.

In Saturday’s playoff action at 1 p.m., the Mariners play the Red Sox while the Rockies take on the Reds.

At 4 p.m., the Diamondbacks take on the Pirates while the Yankees battle the Tigers.

All games are at Rotary Field.

At 4:30 p.m. on Monday at Rotary Field, the 12-year-olds will participate in the home run derby with the AA and AAA championships to follow.

Both championship games are Friday at 6 p.m.

The Majors game is at Rotary Field while the softball title will be decided at Strawberry Hill Park.
