Lakeside loss leaves Spartan girls in the lurch

SEATTLE – Down 55-44 against the vicious Lakeside Lions Thursday, Feb. 9, the Bainbridge High girls varsity basketball team moved forward on their last leg in the postseason Metro tournament.

The would play Eastside Catholic in a loser-out match the very next night, a defeat there meaning a definite end to the season.

Against Lakeside, BHS Head Coach Henry Guterson said the Spartans were ahead for much of the contest but could not maintain the lead in the end.

“We were up nine at half and four going into the fourth,” he said. “We played incredibly well in the first half.

“Give Lakeside a lot of credit, though,” he added. “In the fourth quarter they made shots. As always, I was really proud of our effort.”
