Hits and a miss for Garfield

BAINBRIDGE – Bainbridge was handed their second loss of the season during a Spring Break fastpitch softball doubleheader matchup with Roosevelt that saw three Spartan starters unavailable for play.

The Rough Riders galloped to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, then doubled that to a 6-0 advantage by the top of the fifth.

The Spartans only run came in the bottom of the fifth, and Roosevelt added three more insurance runs in the final inning.

Maddie Loverich went 1-for-3 for the Spartans, with a double and a run.

Malia Peato finished 1-for-3 with an RBI.

The visit by Roosevelt was a double header, as the Bainbridge game at Roosevelt earlier in the season had been postponed due to rain. The makeup was scheduled as the second game in the Spring Break double header at Bainbridge with Roosevelt as the home team.

Trailing 8-5 going into the top of the seventh, Bainbridge tied the game at 8-all on a two-out, three-run home run by Peato.

One pitch later, the Roosevelt coach appealed to the umpires that it was getting too dark to continue the game. The umpires agreed. The Roosevelt coach reported the game to the league as an 8-5 Rough Riders win, probably thinking the game would revert to the score at the end of the previous inning. League rules are that games called when tied are suspended, however.

Bainbridge and Roosevelt will try and complete the game at a later date.
