Gear Grinders race to place

The Gear Grinders, Bainbridge Island’s competitive youth mountain bike racing team, successfully placed several riders on the medal stand recently at its third race of the Washington Student Cycling League season in Roslyn.

ROSYLYN – The Gear Grinders, Bainbridge Island’s competitive youth mountain bike racing team, successfully placed several riders on the medal stand recently at its third race of the Washington Student Cycling League season in Roslyn last weekend.

The high school team is currently ranked sixth out of 21 teams, and the middle school team is ranked sixth out of 16 teams.

Middle school riders who earned places on the podium at this race were Sam Kuznetsov, placing second in his seventh-grade division, and sixth-grader Samantha Campbell, who placed second in her division.

Also on the podium this race was Olivia Cavalluzzi, who placed fourth in her high school girls division.

Scoring points for the high school team were Tessa Vroom, Olivia Cavalluzzi, Aidan Brady and Will Robertson.

Scoring points for the middle school team were Samantha Campbell, Edgar Flynn, Max Doane, Sam Kuznetsov and Sean Westerhout.
