Double defeat mars island wrestling squad’s trip to Cleveland

Snake eyes.

The Bainbridge High School varsity wrestling team lost matches against Cleveland and Rainier Beach Dec. 19 in a disappointing doubleheader.

First, against the host school, the Spartans were bested by the Eagles 70-12.

A number of byes negated many middleweight brackets, but BHS claimed wins in two of the four exhibition bouts.

Then, in the 120-pound bracket, Cleveland’s Ronald Doan scored a 15-5 win against Harrison Cate.

Cleveland again won the 132-pound match, as Darius Wade pinned Asher Lane in 5:16, and Jeramy Truong pinned BHS’ Christopher Longridge in 1:03 to win the 145-pound match.

Against Rainier Beach there were far fewer byes and only one exibiton match, which BHS’ Quentin Ikuse won, pinning ThoneTan Yellowbird-Saetern in 1:05.

In the 106-pound bracket, RB’s Duy Nguyen scored a 17-15 win over Garrett Swanson.

However, BHS’ Harrison Cate pinned Guled Ismail in just 36 seconds to win the 120-pound match.

Bainbridge again came out on top in the 126-pound match, when Levi Field-Bennett pinned Yasin Mumin in 3:38.

Lane, however, was bested in an 11-8 bout in the 132-pound bracket by Adair Jimenez-Lopez.

RB’s Raven Inocencio pinned Longridge in 3:42 in the 145-pound match.

Likewise, Charles Anaya pinned BHS’ Katherine Irvin in 3:52 in the 160-pound match.

Finally, Yusuf Abdikadir beat Bainbridge’s Wyatt Goad with a pin in 1:16 to claim the 195-pound match.
