BAINBRIDGE – Megan Spray launched a pair of two-run homers to power Bainbridge past Seattle Prep, 7-3, in girls fastpitch softball Tuesday.
In the circle, Sara Colley and Olivia Wikstrom allowed Prep just three runs on eight hits.
The defense also stepped up to thwart Prep to stifle a couple of Panther rallies, turning one double play and catching Prep runners in rundowns between third and the plate on two occasions.
The Spartans scored five runs in the second inning on consecutive singles by Malia Peato, Colley and Wikstrom, followed by a two-run triple by Morgan Lassoff and Spray’s first two-run shot.
Prep answered with two unearned runs in the fourth. An outfield error and two singles brought in the first run. A second outfield error brought the Panthers within three at 5-2.
With runners at the corner, a bunt was fielded by Spartan catcher Maddie Loverich, who fired to Alyssa Costello at first to get the batter. The runner on third took off for home on the throw; Costello’s return throw to Loverich easily completed the inning-ending double play.
With one out and a runner on first in the fifth, a Prep double resulted in the lead runner caught between third and home in a well executed rundown by the Spartans.
On the play, the batter reached third during the rundown. She was promptly picked off by Loverich, resulting in a second rundown of a Prep runner by the Spartans.
With Colley on board with a single, Spray extended the Bainbridge lead to 7-2 in the sixth, clubbing her second home run of the day.
Prep touched up Wikstrom for a single run in the seventh to close out the scoring.
Megan Spray went 2-for-3, with two home runs, four RBIs and two runs.
Lassoff was 1-for-3, with a triple, two RBIs and a run.
Kensey Baker finished 2-for-3 at the plate, and had two stolen bases.
Colley was 2-for-3 with two runs.
The victory was the Spartans’ 10th win in 11 Metro League contests (11-2 overall).
