Two freshman gymnasts led Bainbridge High School to a fifth-place finish at the state meet at Sammamish High School last week.
Grace Reeb led the way for BHS placing fifth and scoring 9.35 on the vault, 8.275 for 20th on the uneven bars, 7.875 for 65th on the balance beam and 9.1 on the floor exercise for 28th. Those scores placed her at 14th in the state in the all-around.
Jade Bereman had an 8.3 for 39th on the vault, 8.025 for 25th on the bars, 7.875 for 25th on the beam and 9.125 on the floor for 25th. She was 20th in the all-around.
Junior co-captain Avery Gray was next with an 8.05 on the vault for 56th, 7.3 for 47th on the bars, 8.25 on the beam for 47th and 8.80 on the floor exercise for 57th. She was 37th in the all-around.
Skylar MacDonald of Central Kitsap, who competes with North Kitsap, was 34th in the all-around. She was eighth in the bars, 67th on the beam, 80th on the floor and 85th on the vault.
Four other Spartans competed at state, including two more freshmen.
Phare Dietrich scored a 7.85 for 66th on the vault and 8.65 for 66th on the floor exercise.
Sofia Fleischmann scored a 6.0 on the bars for 77th and 8.15 for 82nd on the floor
Junior co-captain Liz Oliffe also scored in two events, as did sophomore Kate Hansen.
Hansen had a 7.55 in the vault for 83rd and an 8.15 for 53rd on the beam.
Oliffe scored a 6.25 for 73rd on the bars and a 7.55 for 75th on the beam.
Freshman Shawna Smith and junior Libby Pickle also competed but did not figure in the scoring.
The team score for the Spartans was 161.45. Host Sammamish was the overall winner with 175.45 points.
Jordan Lovett of North Kitsap was 44th in the bars with a 7.425. She was also 47th on the beam with an 8.25. She also qualified to compete in the vault and floor, but was not listed in the results for either.
