BHS wrestlers are undefeated at season’s final home meet

The Spartans dished out a triple beatdown, a perfect performance, at their final wrestling home meet of the season last week, making short work of competitors from Bishop Blanchet, Lakeside and Eastside Catholic.

The Bainbridge High varsity wrestling team ended the night 39-27 against Blanchet, 33-22 over Eastside Catholic and defeated both of the Lakeside wrestlers they faced as well.

The year’s final home meet on Jan. 15 also marked BHS Senior Night, and the team’s four senior wrestlers were recognized. The four senior grapplers are: Jonathan Gallivan, Joaquin Gurza, Jordan Jackson and Liam Topham.

In the first round of the meet, Bainbridge beat Blanchet 39-27.

There was a double forfeit in the 106-pound bracket, then Blanchet’s Jack Robel pinned Koa Goff in 42 seconds for a visitor win in the 113-pound match.

Bainbridge’s Cade Topham claimed a win by forfeit in the 120-pound match, as did Gallivan in the 126-pound round.

Jacob O’Donnel claimed a 4-0 decision over Bainbridge’s Greg Williams in the 132-pound match and Riley Monroe pinned Bo Baird in 1:20 to claim the 138-pound bracket for the visiting team.

Spartan superstar Jack Miller swung things back around for BHS and claimed a win in the 145-pound match when he pinned Brian Welch in 4:33.

Bainbridge’s Hague Bush pinned Jacob Mathias in 5:06 to continue the Spartan streak, securing the 152-pound bracket for BHS.

Aaron Jumpa won by forfeit in the 160-pound match.

Spartan heavyweights Gurza and Liam Topham each claimed a win in their classes as well, 170- and 182-pounds, respectively.

Gurza won in an epic 7-0 decision over Blanchet’s Noah Traynor, and Topham pinned Conner Mahoney in 4:20.

Bainbridge faced only two opponents from Lakeside High, but emerged victorious from both matches.

In the 126-pound bracket, Cade Topham pinned Jonathan Castillo in 3:55.

Jumpa claimed a 5-3 decision over Lakeside’s Jaden Brown to lock up the 170-pound match for Bainbridge.

A series of three double forfeits marked the start of the final round, which saw Bainbridge beat Eastside Catholic 33-22.

Then, in the 126-pound match, Gallivan claimed a win by forfeit, as did Williams in the 132-pound bracket.

The Crusaders’ Dustin Johnson won over Baird, barely, in a 12-11 decision in the 138-pound match.

Then, in the 145-pound match, Miller again claimed a big win for Bainbridge with a 7-0 decision win over Matt Boss.

Bush pinned Nick Reeves in 1:27 and won the 152-pound match for BHS.

Gurza was pinned by Eastside’s Matt Iwicki in 3:50, but then Jumpa and Liam Topham claimed forfeit wins in the 170- and 182-pound matches.

There was a double forfeit in the 195-pound bracket, and Eastside secured the 220- and 285-pound brackets by forfeit.
