The Bainbridge Spartans suffered their first loss of the season in varsity boys swimming & diving last week at the Bainbridge Island Aquatic Center.

Newport outlasted Bainbridge 100-83, with wins in seven of 11 races.

The Spartans started the contest with a win in the 200-yard medley relay.

The speedy squad of Andrew Witty, Tyler Stewart, Alex Miller and Jude Wenker placed first in 1:40.44. Their finishing time was a state-qualifying time for the 3A championships (the mark needed for 3A state is 1:41:00.)

Wenker also had a 3A time in the 200-yard individual medley. He touched the wall at 1:56.42, and finished second to Newport’s Nathan Lee (1:55.63).

The foursome won in a state-qualifying time of 1:31.37. (The mark needed for state is 1:32:00.)
