BHS softballers having mixed results

Sophia Peato smacked three home runs and knocked in seven runs to lead Bainbridge to a 15-8 win over Bremerton after girls fastpitch softball team returned from spring break.

The Spartans scored twice in the first inning on an RBI single from Peato and an RBI groundout by Bella Ramirez. Sage Swally started a five-run second inning with a single, stole second, then scored when Grace Colburn hit a two-out triple. Hayden Jobes singled in Colburn, then stole second and scored on the first of two doubles by Laura Carrillo. Carrillo was aboard for the first of Peato’s towering home runs.

The fourth inning was more Carrillo and Peato, as the former doubled and the latter homered. Ramirez then followed with a single and scored on a Sophie Hoff double. Colburn added a homer in the fifth, and singles by Ramirez and Sierra Berry combined with a couple of Bremerton errors pushed the score to 12-4 in the sixth.

In the seventh, Jobes tripled and scored on a wild pitch. Carrillo singled then scored when Peato hit her third two-run home run of the day.

Carrillo pitched a complete game to pick up her second win of the season.

In their next game, they lost to North Masons 10-8.

BHS scored in the second inning after Ramirez singled and scored on a Sage Swally groundout.

In the third singles from Colburn and Hayden Jobes, and a walk to Carrillo loaded the bases. Peato singled to drive in a run, and they scored again on a wild pitch.

BHS took the lead 6-4 in the fifth when Colburn singled and Carrillo doubled before Peato hit a homer over the top of the centerfield scoreboard.

The Spartans couldn’t hold the lead as their defense helped North Mason take back the victory.

Carrillo pitched a complete game but was saddled with the loss despite giving up only four earned runs.

In their game last week against Sequim the visitors took a 1-0 lead in the first, but the Spartans scored two in the bottom of the inning when pinch runner Lena Dozeman scored on an error and Sophia Hoff scored on a line-drive double to center by Peato.

But that was the only runs Bainbridge would score in a 10-2 loss.

Peato on third, Colburn at short and Brearley Jane Curfman at second were outstanding in the field the entire game. Except in the third when each had an error as the Wolves scored twice.

Sequim scored five in the seventh, one on a solo homer, to make the game look not as close as it really was.
