BHS grapplers break even in season debut

Win some, lose some.

The Bainbridge High School varsity wrestling team broke even at their first match of the year Thursday, Nov. 29, a doubleheader at O’Dea against the host school and Eastside Catholic.

Against EC, the Spartans soared 48-30, notching eight wins in 13 bouts.

Garrett Swanson (106-pounds) won by forfeit for BHS, as did Levi Field-Bennett (120) and Doug Takada (160). A double forfeit negated the 285-pound bracket.

In the 113-pound face off, BHS’ Hiram Topham pinned Cooper Flowers in 3:21.

Cameron Williams (138) pinned Nehemiah Faleulu in 1:33.

Oleg Maguire (145) pinned Ben Lombardi in 1:33.

Ben Dunscombe (152) pinned Michael Voscardi in 1:06.

EC’s Everett Isaac (170) pinned Caroline Michaels in 1:12.

Bryan Meier (195) pinned EC’s Julian Blythe in 3:01, and Spartan heavyweight Tyler Pickett (220) pinned Ian Kirby in 1:55.

Against O’Dea, the Spartans did not fare as well. They were bested 43-30 in the end, though the island squad did rack up five wins.

Swanson (106-pounds) pinned O’Dea’s Connor Richardson in 5:55.

Topham (113) won by forfeit, as did Maguire (145), Doug Takada (152) and Blythe (195).

The Spartans next returned home for their first on-island match of the year, against Garfield, Thursday, Dec. 6.
